Getting Started
Everything you need to download, install, and start creating narrated videos from your PowerPoint presentations.
1. Download & Install
System requirements: Windows 10 or 11 · PowerPoint 2016, 2019, 2021, or Microsoft 365 · .NET Framework 4.7.2 (pre-installed on Windows 10+)
- Click the download button above and run
PPTNarratorVideo-Setup.exe. - If Windows shows a SmartScreen prompt, click More info → Run anyway. The installer is signed with an Extended Validation (EV) certificate.
- If Chrome shows a "Suspicious download" warning, click the arrow (›) next to the blocked file, then choose Keep anyway. This warning appears on new software releases and will clear as download volume grows — the installer is EV code-signed by DYT K.K. via GlobalSign.
- If McAfee, Norton, Trend Micro, Kaspersky, or another antivirus blocks or quarantines the installer, this is a false positive. The installer is EV code-signed by DYT K.K. via GlobalSign (valid through March 2027) and contains no malware — independently verified by all major antivirus vendors via VirusTotal (Kaspersky, ESET, BitDefender, CrowdStrike, Microsoft Defender and others all return clean). To proceed: temporarily disable real-time protection, run
PPTNarratorVideo-Setup.exe, then re-enable protection. You can also add the file to your antivirus exclusion list. - The add-in installs automatically. Open PowerPoint — you will see a "PPT Narrator" tab in the ribbon.
- Click Manage License in the ribbon and paste the license key from your purchase email to activate.
2. Confirm Installation
After running the installer, open PowerPoint. You should see a "PPT Narrator" tab in the ribbon at the top.
If you don't see the PPT Narrator tab:
- Close and reopen PowerPoint completely.
- Go to File → Options → Add-ins.
- At the bottom, set "Manage" to COM Add-ins and click Go.
- Make sure PPT Narrator Video is checked. Click OK.
3. Install High-Quality Voices (Recommended)
PPT Narrator Video uses the voices installed on your Windows system. The default SAPI 5 voices work, but Windows Neural Voices sound dramatically better — and they're free.
How to Add Neural Voices
- Open Windows Settings (Win + I).
- Go to Time & Language → Speech.
- Under Manage voices, click Add voices.
- Pick the language you want narration in (e.g. English (United States) or Spanish (Mexico)) and click Add. This installs every voice for that language — it takes a few minutes.
- When the download finishes, fully close PowerPoint — not just the file. PowerPoint reads the voice list only at startup, so make sure
POWERPNT.EXEhas exited (check Task Manager if unsure), then reopen it. - In the PPT Narrator ribbon, open the Voice dropdown — the new voices appear, tagged
(Neural)or(SAPI). - Still not showing after restarting PowerPoint? Restart Windows once and the voice will register.
(SAPI) or (Neural) in the dropdown. It cannot use Windows "natural narrator voices" — the ones tagged (Natural) or (Natural HD), such as Aria (Natural) or Andrew (Natural HD). Those are reserved by Windows for the built-in Narrator and aren't available to any third-party app. So don't add voices through Narrator's "Add natural voices" screen (Ctrl + Win + N) or the "Natural narrator voice" optional feature — they won't appear here. Always use Speech → Add voices as shown above. Why Neural Voices Matter
Standard SAPI voices were designed decades ago and can sound robotic. Neural voices use modern speech synthesis and deliver output that sounds close to a human narrator — clear intonation, natural pauses, and smooth phrasing. PPT Narrator Video lists both kinds in the same dropdown so you can compare for yourself.
What about Aria (Natural) or Andrew (Natural HD)?
You may notice these higher-quality voices in Windows Narrator's voice list. They are reserved by Microsoft for the built-in Narrator (an accessibility feature) and are not exposed through the public speech API that third-party apps use. PPT Narrator Video — like every other non-Microsoft app — cannot read them. The voices we do support (Mark, Zira, David, Eva, Catherine, Ayumi, Haruka, Ichiro, etc.) are the highest quality available to third-party apps on Windows.
4. Create Your First Video
- Write your narration in PowerPoint's Speaker Notes (the panel below each slide).
- Switch to the PPT Narrator tab in the ribbon.
- Select your preferred Voice from the dropdown.
- (Optional) Choose the Resolution — 1080p (default) or 720p.
- Click "Create Video".
- Choose where to save the MP4 file.
- Wait while each slide is processed — a progress dialog shows the current slide.
- When finished, click "Open Video" to view your result, or "Open Folder" to find the file.
5. Troubleshooting & FAQ
Slides with no notes will display for a short default duration (about 2 seconds) with no narration. This is useful for title slides or visual-only slides.
Yes. Use the Resolution dropdown in the PPT Narrator ribbon to choose between 720p and 1080p. The default is 1080p (Full HD).
In the PPT Narrator ribbon, click Manage License, then click Deactivate. This frees the license. Install PPT Narrator Video on your new computer and activate with the same license key.
Large presentations (50+ slides) or slides with complex animations may take longer. If the progress dialog shows no movement for more than a minute, you can cancel and try again.
Yes. PPT Narrator Video uses every compatible voice installed on your Windows system, in any language. Add more languages via Settings → Time & Language → Speech → Add voices, pick the language, and click Add. Then fully restart PowerPoint and the new voices appear, tagged (Neural) or (SAPI).
1. Download & Install (Mac)
System requirements: macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later · Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac (required — the app uses it to render your slides) · Apple Silicon or Intel
- After your purchase, download the
.dmgfrom your order page — the download link is in your receipt email. - Open the
.dmgand drag PPT Narrator Video into your Applications folder. - Launch it from Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens normally — no security workaround needed.
- On first launch the app checks that Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac is installed and asks you to pick a working folder once. PowerPoint writes a temporary PDF there while converting slides; it is deleted afterward. You are asked only once.
2. Install High-Quality Voices (Recommended)
The app uses the natural-sounding voices built into macOS. A few are installed by default; you can add higher-quality Enhanced and Premium voices for free.
- Open System Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content.
- Click the System Voice menu, then Manage Voices…
- Pick a language and voice and click the download icon. Voices marked Premium or Enhanced sound the most natural.
- The new voice then appears in the app’s voice picker.
3. Create Your First Video
- Write your narration in PowerPoint’s Speaker Notes — the app reads them as the script. Decks exported from Keynote or Google Slides as
.pptxwork too. - Open your
.pptxin the app (drag it in, or use Open). - Pick a voice, then set the speaking speed and the pause between slides.
- Choose your resolution — 720p, 1080p (default), 1440p, or 4K.
- Review and tweak the narration text per slide if you like, then click Export to save the MP4 to your Mac.
4. Troubleshooting & FAQ
Yes. The app uses Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac to render your slides to images, so it must be installed. The app then adds the narration and builds the MP4.
720p, 1080p (default), 1440p, or 4K (3840×2160). Choose it in the app before exporting; slides are rendered at full resolution, so even 4K stays sharp.
Because the app runs in Apple’s sandbox, PowerPoint needs a folder both apps can reach to hand over the temporary PDF. You pick one once; the temporary files are deleted after each export.
Your purchase is a personal license — install it on the Macs you personally use. There’s no App Store or Apple ID step. For team seats, get in touch via the contact form.
